2024 – Chappy & Family Wedding Time…
With our 32 day South Pacific cruise now completed we were on the next stage of this 2024 adventure. When we had made our 2024 travel plans one of the important things we had to make sure was we were in Poughkeepsie, NY and Mike’s hometown of Beacon, NY for the wedding weekend on June 1st between Mike’s niece Calle and here fiancé Charlie. They have been dating and together for years and were finally getting married this year. As a family we were all excited to be there to celebrate “Beef & Jeff”…
We decided that we would leave Palm Springs about a 10 days early and fly across the country to Boston so we could spend the week before the big day vacationing with Caitlin, Bruce, Mac, & Dakota at the Dew’s favorite place Chappaqudick, MA (Chappy). Chappy is near a dear to the Dew’s as they originally met on Martha’s Vineyard years ago and then were married there in 2019. Each year they visit the remote island of Chappy for fishing, beach , and just relaxing family time. They have invited us for years but our schedule this year just worked out that we could spend a few days there before heading to the wedding in New York. It’s funny as we spent several years vacationing on Martha’s Vineyard back in the 80’s until it got overly crowded and we have pictures of Caitlin there (around the same age Mac is now) from those days.
We arrived on our flight from Palm Springs at 6:00am in the morning after flying our regular “Red Eye” to Boston. The plan was to Uber from Logan to Caitlin’s Charlestown apartment, get her keys and then drive to the ferry between Woods Hole – Oak Bluffs. We have done this many times and are familiar with the process but oh boy is th ever more expensive now. Round trip is just under $300.00 now.
Arriving at the house eon Chappy mid morning the Dew’s were already packing for a day at the beach and fishing. We were excited to see them and certainly get to the beach…
On Tuesday of our visit Caitlin & Bruce had a work day on the phones so Gram & Pop decided to take a trip off island into the town of Edgartown, MA. Joanne and I have visited Edgartown many times over the years and remember walking the streets of this famous town even when Caitlin was a toddler. Edgartown, MA was made especially famous back in the 1970’s with Steve Spielberg’s Movie classic “Jaws”. Crossing from Chappy too Edgartown we walked on the “On-Time Ferry” for the couple minute boat ride across the mouth of the port. Once there we spent several hours walking the streets, visiting the stores, and reflecting with Mac.
Our last day on Chappy included the arrival of Bruce’s parent from Webster, NY. It was nice to connect up with them again and share a yummy dinner on the deck after enjoying another beach day. Special Thanks to Bruce Senior for cooking some excellent steaks on the grill!
We said our goodbyes on Thursday morning 5/30/24 as we headed to our hotel in Poughkeepsie, NY. Our plan was to arrive a couple of days before the wedding so we could help with any logistics that were needed. Aunt Pat was organized and have tasks for Joanne, Mike, The Dondero’s (Beth & Matt) , and many others as we prepared for the weekend festivities…
The wedding was incredible… Seeing so many old friends and family, helping Calle & Charlie celebrate the start of their official married life together, and just enjoying family May has been a whirlwind. We are so fortunate for our friends and family everyday but weddings can trigger so many reminders that we are all so blessed.
From the Nunan’s, the Dew’s, the Knight’s, and everyone that were there for this special occasion we couldn’t be happier for Calle & Charlie to begin their Journey together!
CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!
