2024 – Winter Snowbird Season …
After a busy year of travel which included cruising for over a month, the month of May in UK, Wales, & Scotland, the Month of June in Ireland, lots of RV/Camping spots, and Volunteering the month of Sept at Assategue State Park we were looking forward to hunkering down for a few months as Snowbird’s at DSRV in SoCal…
We arrived at DSRV just in time for the Annual DSRV Holiday Golf Cart Parade which is always a hoot and where we get really re-acquainted with all our RV Resort friends… Yes the parade is a 4 hour party that leads through the resort with frequent stops at a myriad of pop-up well -stocked locations with generous Holiday cheer to be shared by everyone…
With the Holiday season completed in December we then got down to enjoying the many activities the park is known for. Usaully we spend 3 or 4 mornings a week on the pickleball court, Wednesday with the hiking club, and many special events and dinners. I often say it’s as close to big kid camp as I have known.
January was a very busy month for Mike as he has been working on building a brand new Website for the Resort for over a year and planned to launch it at the Annual Meeting in January. The meeting went well and the feedback was excellent. It was a large project and took up the lions share of Mike free time the past year but it came out exactly as he planned and is a Big Win for the community. February brings us the Valentine’s Day event… March is the Annual Jeff Abrams Volleyball Tournament and th St. Patricks Day Golf Cart Parade… and often during the season we attend many concerts and musical events including the Westin Hotel Grooves Series and one of our favorites Peter White.
The last 2 years the Owners have had a block party on Rascal Circle and it has become a very fun event for many in the community. Everyone brings something to share, their are plenty of beverages to be had, line dancing , music , and just all-out fun!
We have reminded ourselves many times over the last few years how fortunate we are for our “Snowbird” friends we have at Desert Shadows RV Resort. When we set out on this full time adventure, nearly 6 years ago, we had no plan or idea where we would spend our winters, let alone establish literally a hundred new best friends. We literally stumbled into this community by accident and cant believe the friendships, volunteering, activities, events, and lifelong connections we have made here. We think this community and group keeps us young, active, involved, social, and very busy each winter on this continuing “Revolutionary Journey”…
